About The Schmoozes

Since 2004, The Schmoozes have launched a social attack on New York City, London and Israel. The Schmoozes (an ongoing investigation around the globe) involve approx. 500 sculptures – a combination of figurative and abstract minimalism cartoonish creatures – that emerge like mushrooms in unexpected places and catch viewers by surprise. The Schmoozes manage to extract some kind of a reaction from anyone who goes by them and challenge the viewer to take part in the happening. They are interested in situations that catch unawares – the audience may not plan to be an audience but is one unintentionally. This way The Schmoozes construct a shared environment in which the viewer becomes a participant artist in a designated social space. By opening up the audience to take part in the Schmoozes’ happening, a particular environment suddenly acquires a social meaning and value. Working with the community, The Schmoozes’ vision is to transform audience’s awareness of their environment and culture and generate interaction and communication in public spaces. By mingling in an urban environment, the Schmoozes explore the dynamics of people in communal spaces. They further explore the active part of commodity in a store setting that travels around the world as well and trades Schmooze goods and accessories to spread the buzz of Schmoozing.
